Board Meeting Summary – July 2020

Held online via Zoom – no apologies.

There had been no recent board meetings, but Billy and Jim provided an update on the latest preparations for the new season. We were expecting an early September re-start without crowds until at least October. There was a still a deal of uncertainty around the club’s finances, but plans were being drawn up for allowing spectators back into the ground and the players had resumed non-contact training. We were in a better position financially than most League 2 clubs due to last season’s football fortune and ongoing payments over the summer.

There was a long discussion over the current state of succession which had hit an impasse during COVID lockdown and was showing little sign of being resolved for the time being. Although the club’s finances were relatively stable, underlying operating losses were still substantial, and it was hoped further EFL reforms would help to bring these down.

The CarlisleREUnited campaign had realised £6,777 as a projected minimum figure by the end of the month. £775 had been pledged in ‘Looking Good’ sponsorship, which was close to hitting its 3k views target on Youtube. Further fund-raising initiatives were being progressed and work was under way with the help of the club to promote these. Corporate and council backing was being sought with Frank in charge of communications.

Final year accounts had been produced and were now with our auditor for independent examination. AGM preparations for next month were under way.

Membership stood at 475 and was steadily climbing but we still had over 200 members to renew. Personalised reminder email to go out to all those affected before the end of July. We had approaching £3,300 in general funds, outside of CRU funds.

Frank had produced an updated welcome letter to send to new members.

With no other business, the meeting was declared closed. Date of next meeting – to be confirmed.
