Back Simpson’s bid to make the Blues better

NEWS & STAR COLUMN 05.05.22

CUOSC can only echo Paul Simpson’s rallying call to fans and local businesses as he bids to make the Blues better.

If everyone unites behind the manager and we all pull in the same direction then, hopefully, the club can look forward to a brighter future.

Supporters have got behind Simmo massively since his return and convinced him his future lies at Brunton Park.

Everyone is delighted he has committed for another three years and there is now a chance of real change in the club’s fortunes. Simpson has said he will work with chief executive Nigel Clibbens to overhaul the club from ‘top to bottom.’

And both will be hoping fans respond positively to the club’s offers on season tickets for next season.

Existing season ticket holders can renew for last year’s price up until May 13 while if new season ticket holders buy before June 17 they will make a saving. For all the details visit the club’s website at www.carlisleunited.co.uk

CUOSC realise that fans still want to see a change of control in the boardroom.

We believe the directors want that as well. But the £2.5m debt to Purepay Retail remains a big stumbling block. We are hoping that Purepay will eventually agree to a repayment plan that will improve the chances of finding new investors. In the meantime, if everyone pulls together the club can still move forward.

Having already secured league safety it was a nice change to go Brunton Park at the weekend and not have to worry too much about the result.

There was none of the tension of previous weeks but fans left the last home game of the season in good spirits after the Blues completed the ‘double’ over Stevenage.

But there is still one more big ‘awayday’ for some our fantastic fans. There will be over 1,500 at Bradford City on Saturday for what they are hoping will be an end of season carnival affair.

The winner of the CUOSC’s Player of the Season will be announced on Sunday at the club’s awards dinner at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle. Thank you to everyone who voted.

For information about the dinner or to book a place visit the club’s website at www.carlisleunited.co.uk

CUOSC’s inaugural Football Fun Day went down well last Sunday with supporters given the chance to take part in a six-a-side tournament on Brunton Park pitch. We were very encouraged by the response and the plan is to make it bigger and better next season.
